Seminar Program
In June 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released Final VI guidance documents that update and replace the original 2002 Draft documents. Two documents comprise the update which represents EPA's current technical recommendations:
- OSWER Technical Guide for Assessing and Mitigating the Vapor Intrusion Pathway from Subsurface Vapor Sources to Indoor Air (referred to as the VI Technical Guide)
- Technical Guide for Addressing Petroleum Vapor Intrusion at Leaking Underground Storage Tank Sites (referred to as the PVI Guidance)
With the release of the finalized EPA documents, the regulated community has expressed concerns about how these changes will affect them. Some topics that will be addressed:
-
Discussion of what is new in the EPA Guidance documents as compared to current practices
-
EPA position on non-residential exposures
-
Approaches to addressing short-term exposure risks
-
Petroleum Hydrocarbons: Site screening based on separation distance
-
VI compounds of concern and screening levels
-
Conventional and passive sampling methodologies
-
Additional VI investigation and mitigation strategies implications for the MassDEP approaches to VI
MassDEP is in the process of updating their VI guidance and other NE States have been adding to their current guidance. How is the EPA release going to fit with State Guidance?
Alpha Analytical assembled a panel of leading experts who will discuss the key changes and challenges in these documents and the emerging approaches for investigations and mitigation.
