Hazmat Technician

Job Summary

The Hazmat Technician is responsible for the control of all hazardous materials in the laboratory, including the monitoring of waste collection and storage systems.  

Requirements:

Education:        High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:      0-2 years

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Spill response and cleanup
2. Maintenance of spill cleanup supplies
3. Sample archive cleaning and maintenance
4. Non-hazardous sample disposal
5. Sample waste streams
6. Disposal of wastes
7. Maintain certification for all OSHA directives
8. Inspection of Satellite Waste Areas

Minimum Required Skills:

1. Requires the taking of OSHA 40-hour Hazardous Materials Training and DOT/RCRA training
2. Must be a quick learner; highly motivated, able to work independently, and follow prescribed methods and direction
3. Excellent attention to detail
4. Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, OSHA regulations and emergency protocols
