MA DEP MCP

Massachusetts Contingency Plan

Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) recognized in 1999 that the competitive nature of the industry was causing labs to interpret language in SW-846 methods in such a way as to reduce the quality of the data being produced. The DEP formed a workgroup composed of agency personnel, environmental consultants and commercial laboratories to review the SW-846 methods and “tweak” the performance criteria requirements. Alpha Analytical was represented by three members on this workgroup and was the only laboratory to consistently participate in the four-year effort to develop the guidance document know as the Compendium of Analytical Methods (CAM). In addition, a member of Alpha’s staff was then one of the presenters in the series of training seminars provided to the regulated community following its release. Alpha supports all the listed CAM procedures including the following Massachusetts specific methods:

  • MA DEP APH (Air-phase Petroleum Hydrocarbons)
  • MA DEP EPH (Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons)
  • MA DEP VPH (Volatile Petroleum Hydrocarbons)
